Abstract:

Práce se zabývá analýzou interní sémantické struktury skupiny pohybových sloves popisujících pomalou chůzi; jedná se o slovesa amble, hike, meander, pad, ramble, roam, rove, saunter, stray, stroll, wander. Analýza je založena na Britském národním korpusu. Práce zkoumá přesnou specifikaci pohybu, který dané sloveso vyjadřuje. Pozornost je také věnována typu původce tohoto pohybu (zda je původce člověk, zvíře či neživotný předmět), výskytu sloves v progresivní formě a také zda jsou daná slovesa používána tranzitivně či intranzitivně. Analýza stručně shrnuje, zda má daný pohyb cíl či ne a kde se pohyb většinou uskutečňuje (zda může být dané sloveso použito k popisu pohybu v interiérech, či venku ve městě či v přírodě). Dle výsledků analýzy se slovesa v této skupině značně liší. Většina sloves se zaměřuje na specifický prvek pohybu, či má sklony vyskytovat se ve specifických kontextech. Jediné sloveso, které může přebírat významy jiných sloves je sloveso wander. Četnost výskytu zvířat a neživotných předmětů v pozici původce děje záleží na sémantickém charakteru daného slovesa. Většina sloves preferuje intranzitivní použití. Slovesa se vyskytují v progresivu jen když je třeba specifického zdůraznění, ale celkově je výskyt progresiva v porovnání s neprogresivními tvary velice nízký. Pohyb, který daná slovesa vyjadřují, často směřuje k specifickému cíli.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with an analysis of the internal semantic structure of a selected group of verbs denoting a slow leisurely walk. The verbs analyzed are: amble, hike, meander, pad, ramble, roam, rove, saunter, stray, stroll, and wander. The analysis is based on the data from the British National Corpus. The research focuses on the specifications of the motion. Attention is also paid to the type of the actor (whether it is only a human being or if there may be animal or inanimate actors), to the occurrence of the progressive forms and to transitivity of the verbs. The thesis also briefly deals with the question of aimlessness and of the setting of the motion. According to the results the verbs in this semantic group differ to great extent. Most of the verbs focus on a specific feature of the motion or has a tendency to occur in specific contexts. The only verb that may take over the meanings of other verbs is the verb wander. The frequencies of animal and inanimate actors seem to depend on the semantic properties of the verb; they range from zero results to relatively high occurrences. Majority of the verbs prefer an intransitive use. The progressive seems to be used only when some specific emphasis is needed, but in overall the verbs does not occur in the progressive aspect very frequently. The motion is frequently directed towards an aim.
