Music and singing ensembles in Litomyšl from 1800 to the present

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce vytváří přehled hudebních a pěveckých souborů, působících v Litomyšli od roku 1800 do současnosti. U každého souboru se soustředí na okolnosti jeho založení a na nejvýraznější osobnosti působící v souboru. Dále pak sleduje jeho umělecké zaměření a kulturní přínos městu. Práce navazuje na badatelské aktivity Zdeňka Nejedlého, Jana Kapusty a Milana Skřivánka a doplňuje informace obsažené v jejich publikacích o novodobé poznatky. V bakalářské práci jsou také použity informace z archivu Městského muzea v Litomyšli a osobní vzpomínky a materiály členů hudebních souborů. Práce se nezabývá kulturní činností německého obyvatelstva.

Abstract:

This thesis provides an overview of music and choirs in Litomyšl, from 1800 to the present day. The study focusses on the particular historical circumstances at the time of the beginnings of each choir, and the main participating figures. It also discusses the musical style of each choir, and the cultural contribution it made to the town. The thesis is reliant mainly on research carried out by historians such as Zdeněk Nejedlý, Jan Kapusta and Milan Skřivánek, but also unearths new information about the choirs. The thesis uses historical data from the Town museum archive in Litomyšl, and also the personal recollections of the choirs members. This thesis does not deal with the cultural activity of the German population.
