A Library for Time-efficient State Spaces Storage on Hard Disk

Abstract:

Při formální verifikaci systémů metodou postupného procházení stavového prostoru narážíme často na problém stavové exploze způsobujího extrémní požadavky na dostupnou paměť. Tento problém je částečně možno řešit využitím externích pamětí, například pevných disků. Ukazuje se, že jednoduchý sekvenční zápis pomocí běžných primitivních funkcí lze výrazně urychlit za použití více vláken pro výpočty a vstupně výstupní operace. Úkolem této práce je navrhnout rozhraní a implementovat knihovnu umožňující snadné uložení stavových prostorů na disk a maximálně efektivní přístup ke čtení i modifikaci uložených dat. Součástí práce je také diskuze o zvoleném řešení, dokumentace k rozhraní a zdrojovým kódům a experimentální ověření funkčnosti v kombinaci s nástrojem DiVinE.

Abstract:

In formal verification of systems using the enumerative state space exploration method we often encouter the state space explosion problem which poses extreme memory requirements. This problem can be partially solved using external memory, e. g. hard disks. A simple sequential write using common primitive functions can be made substantially faster when using more threads for computation and input/output operations. The goal of this thesis is to design an interface and implement a library that will enable a simple storage of state spaces on disk and maximally efficient access to reading and modification of the stored data. The thesis also contains a discussion of the chosen solution, documentation of the interface and the source code and an experimental validation of functionality in combination with the DiVinE tool.
