Digital technology and the leisure time of preschool children through the eyes of parents

Abstract:

Magisterská diplomová práce se zaměřuje na otázku, jaké místo zaujímají digitální technologie ve volném čase předškolních dětí z pohledu rodičů. Pojednává o roli technologií, jako jsou televize, tablet, mobil, počítač a další v rodinném prostředí, s orientací na rodičovskou mediaci a sociální učení. Cílem práce je popsat a vysvětlit rodičovské vnímání ohledně využívání technologií malými dětmi a zároveň zjistit, jak sami přistupují k jejich užívání a jak probíhá regulace médií v rodinách. Teoretická část na základě dostupné české i zahraniční literatury popisuje digitální technologie a jejich využívání dětmi v předškolním věku, dále se pozornost upírá na volný čas dětí a roli technologií v něm. Poslední kapitola uvádí do problematiky mediální výchovy v rodině a postoj rodičů k technologiím. V empirické části práce je popsána metodologie společně s analýzou a interpretací výzkumných zjištění, která jsou klíčovým bodem celé práce.

Abstract:

The master's thesis focuses on the question of the place of digital technologies in the leisure time of preschool children from the perspective of parents. It discusses the role of technologies such as television, tablet, mobile, computer and others in the family environment, with a focus on parental mediation and social learning. The aim of the paper is to describe and explain parental perceptions regarding young children's use of technology, while also exploring how they themselves approach their use and how media regulation takes place in families. The theoretical part, based on available Czech and foreign literature, describes digital technologies and their use by preschool children, and focuses on children's leisure time and the role of technology in it. The last chapter introduces the issue of media education in the family and parents' attitude towards technology. The empirical part of the thesis describes the methodology along with the analysis and interpretation of the research findings, which are the key point of the whole thesis.
