The opinion of students of selected medical fields to seniors

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem práce bylo zjistit postoj studentů oborů Zdravotnický asistent a Všeobecná sestra k seniorům. Metodika: Výzkumný soubor byl tvořen studenty oboru Zdravotnický asistent ze Střední zdravotnické školy v Šumperku a Střední zdravotnické školy a Vyšší odborné školy zdraovtnické v Olomouci. Vzorek z oboru Všeobecná sestra byl sestavený ze studentů z Ostravské univerzity v Ostravě a Univerzity Tomáše Bati ve Zlíně studující prezenční nebo kombinovanou formu. Celkový výzkumný vzorek tvořilo 456 studentů těchto oborů. Pro sběr dat byl použit standardizovaný dotazník Kogan?s Attitudes toward Old People scale (KOP), který byl vytvořen v USA v roce 1961. Výsledky: Výsledky dotazníku Kogan?s Attitudes toward Old People scale (KOP) se shodují se studiemi provedenými v zahraničí. Bylo zjištěno, že negativní postoj zastávají ve vzorku respondentů především studenti do 25 let na středních školách, o něco málo pozitivnější názor nalezneme u studentů vysokých škol do 25 let. Nejvíce pozitivní přístup, na škále však pouze lehce pozitivní, nalezneme u studentů nad 25 let. Tyto výsledky jsou dle autorů práce zapříčiněny především neznalosti a nezkušeností s geriatrickou péčí. Zkušenější, starší sestry, které se se seniorskou péčí během své praxe setkaly, zastávají postoj k seniorům pozitivnější. Závěr: Pozitivní postoj zdravotníků k seniorům je nesmírně důležitý. Musí se myslet především na to, že ve většině případů zůstává mysl starých lidí nepozměněna, pouze jsou neschopní se o sebe postarat. Pozitivní přístup může zpříjemnit jejich poslední, ale významnou etapu života. Abstract:

Objective: The aim of the thesis was to determine the attitude of students of Medical Assistant and General Nursing specialization to seniors. Methods: The research sample consisted of students of the Medical Assistant specialization of Medical High School in Sumperk and Medical High School and College in Olomouc. A representative sample of the General Nurse specialization was created from students of the University of Ostrava and the Tomas Bata University in Zlin. The sample of university students was made from full-time and part-time students. Total research sample consisted of 456 students from these specializations. The Kogan's Attitudes Toward Old People Scale (KOP) standardized questionnaire, which was created in the US in 1961 was used for data collection. Results: The results of Kogan?s Attitudes toward Old People scale (KOP) questionnaire concur with studies realized abroad. It was found that the sample of respondents with negative attitude mostly hold students from secondary school up to 25 years of age, slightly more positive attitude hold university students up to 25 years of age. The most positive attitude, on the scale only slightly positive attitude, hold students over 25 years of age. According to the authors? option, these results are primarily caused by unawareness and inexperience with geriatric care. Experienced and older nurses, who have an experience with geriatric care during their practice, hold more positive attitude toward seniors. Conclusion: The positive attitude of medical professionals to seniors is extremely important. It is important to know, that in many cases senior?s mind remained unchanged even though they are unable to care for themselves. A positive attitude may increase quality of their last but not least stage of life.
