The effect of rehabilitation on sitting stability in paraplegics

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou míšního poranění a stability sedu u paraplegiků. Hlavním cílem je zhodnotit vliv rehabilitačního programu na zlepšení stability sedu v krátkodobém i dlouhodobém horizontu. Testovaná skupina se skládala z 9 probandů (2 žen a 7 mužů) s míšní lézí v rozmezí Th1-Th12. Věkové rozmezí bylo 29 až 59 let (43 ± 11 let). K vyšetření posturální stability sedu bylo užito zařízení Sunball a proveden test trika. Studie byla doplněna o anamnestický dotazník, hodnocení ASIA skore, subjektivní hodnocení probanda a hodnocení terapeuta. Výsledky hodnocení posturální stability zařízením Sunball a testem trika ukázaly v dlouhodobém horizontu (2 měsíce) statisticky významné rozdíly (p = 0,05). V horizontu jedné cvičební jednotky (data zařízení Sunball) bylo dosaženo statisticky významného rozdílu (p = 0,05) u probandů jako celku, nebylo však dosaženo statisticky významného rozdílu (p = 0,05) u jednotlivých probandů. Po zohlednění všech dat však můžeme konstatovat, že léčebná rehabilitace má signifikantní vliv na stabilitu sedu u paraplegiků.

Abstract:

The master thesis deals with problems related to a spinal cord injury and postural stability of sitting in paraplegics. The main goal of the thesis was determined the effect of rehabilitation on postural stability in short-term and long-term rehabilitation programme. A total of 9 patients (2 women and 7 men) with thoracic spinal cord lesions (Th1 – Th12) were recruited and measured for the purpose of this thesis. The mean age of the patients was 43 ± 11 years. The Sunball device and T-shirt test were used to examine the postural stability of sitting. The study contained a survey to gather thesis - relevant information from patients and ASIA (ISNCSCI) assessment protocol to quantify the severity of the spinal cord injury in every patient. The results of postural stability measurement during a long – term rehabilitation programme showed statistically significant differences between values gathered before and after therapy. Statistically significant differences were also found between values gathered before and after therapy in patients all together during short – term rehabilitation programme. However no statistically significant differences were found between values gathered before and after a single therapy in every patient. The results of the study proved the positive effect of rehabilitation on posutural stability of sitting in paraplegics.
