Abstract:

Cílem této práce je srozumitelně vysvětlit pohled Pat Barkerové na sex, sexualitu, sociální rodové role a vztahy v trilogii Regeneration prostřednictvím pečlivé analýzy motivace postav, dějové linky a vyprávěčských technik, které autorka používá. V práci se zaměřuji na změny v britské společnosti po dobu první světové války v souvislosti s předepsanými společenskými úlohami žen a mužů, s heteronormativní sexualitou a jejími porušeními, a s úlohou sexu v době války. Středem zájmu téhle práce je snaha hlavních postav najít rovnováhu mezi předepsanými rodovými rolemi, očekávaní společnosti a situacemi, ve kterých se v důsledku války ocitají. Hlavním poznatkem je, že první světová válka radikálně změnila každodenní život lidí a jejich úlohy v něm, aniž by v společnosti došlo k posunu paradigmat týkajících se rodových úloh, co mělo za následek napětí mezi vlastní identitou člověka a jeho společenskou rolou.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to comprehensively demonstrate Pat Barker's views on sex, sexuality, gender, and relationships in Regeneration Trilogy via close reading and analysis of the characters' motivation, plot development and narrative techniques. The focus of the thesis is on the changes in the British society during the First World War as presented in the trilogy connected to the notions of masculinity/femininity, prescribed gender roles, heteronormative sexuality and its subversion and the role of sex in the wartime. The core area of interest in the thesis is Barker's vision of how the main characters counterbalance their perceived gender identities and the expectations of society with the situations they find themselves in, the main argument being that the war radically changed people's real-life gender identities without creating a social paradigm shift, resulting in tension between a person's self-identification and his or her social role.
