Dark Avenger: Understanding of computer virus and hacker's motivations

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na problematiku počítačového malwaru. Tento pojem zahrnuje všechny červy, trojské koně, počítačové viry a jiné, které v sobě mají cíl způsobit cokoliv zlého koncovým uživatelům. Kvůli době, ve které žijeme, tedy v době, kde jsou chytré telefony, tablety a počítače nedílnou součástí našeho života je problematice malware věnován opravdu velký prostor, jelikož se z původně nevinného softwaru v současné době stává ohrožení globálního charakteru, nejen pro obyčejné uživatele počítačů, ale také systémů na státní úrovni. Jedná se o velmi aktuální téma, které je bezpochyby nutné rozpracovat a rozšířit všeobecné informace o této problematice. Avšak spoustu lidí ani netuší, co to malware je a co může způsobit. A právě proto tato práce vznikla. Práce je rozdělena do několika částí, nejprve definuje co to malware vlastně je, dále jakou historií si tento škodlivý software prošel, jak se měnily jeho funkce i vnímání v rámci široké veřejnosti. Práce dále rozpracovává jednotlivé typy malware a popisuje některé současné viry. V poslední kapitole teoretické části se práce zaměřuje na motivy tvůrců virů. V této práci se však nebude na malware pohlížet jen jako na něco hrozného a děsivé, ale v další části této práci se podíváme na to, jak se na malware jde podívat i z jiné stránky. Díky tvůrci s pseudonymem Dark Avenger můžeme pohlížet na tuto problematiku také jako na umění. Tudíž další součástí práce je představení tvůrce Dark Avengera, dále jak chápe virus ze své perspektivy a jaké měl motivy k tvorbě virů. Také se pokusíme zanalyzovat jeho tvorbu, k tomu nám dopomůžou práce od Sarah Gordon. Cílem bakalářské práce je seznámit čtenáře s nebezpečným počítačovým malwarem, ale zároveň se pokusím malware představit i z úplně jiné stránky a to ze stránky umělecké. Hlavní téma této práce je analyzovat motivy tvůrců virů. Tedy za jakým účelem tihle umělci tvoří viry.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the issues of computer malware that covers all the worms, trojans, computer viruses, and other elements aiming to harm end users. In the modern period, where smartphones, tablets and computers are an integral part of our lives, there is a lot of space for malware expansion. This originally innocent software has become a global threat, not just for ordinary computer users, but also for state-level systems. The main purpose of this work is to focus on this very topical issue and to broaden at least general information on the subject, as there are still many people who don´t even know what malware is and what its impacts can be. The thesis is divided into several parts: first part is defining what malware is, its history and evolution this malicious software went through, how it changed its functions and perceptions within the general public. The thesis also elaborates individual types of malware and describes some current viruses. The last chapter of the theoretical part focuses on the motives of virus makers. However in this work, malware will not only be presented as something terrible and scary, but the next part will try to describe malware from another perspective. Thanks to the creator called Dark Avenger, we can also consider this issue as art. Thus, a part of this chapter is dedicated to this person, how he understands the virus from his perspective, what motivated him to create viruses, and we will also try to analyze his action through Sarah Gordon´s works. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to acquaint the reader with dangerous computer malware, but at the same time to introduce malware from a completely different point of view – the artistic side. The main theme of this work is to analyze the motivations of virus makers and undertand the purpose of their approach.
