Transformation of Hierarchical-bureaucratic Corporation into Agile Organization – Case study

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je formou případové studie zanalyzovat průběh transformace tradiční korporace na agilní organizaci a definovat výzvy, se kterými se zaměstnanci během transformace potýkali (výzvami jsou myšleny obtížné či složité situace). Teoretická část vysvětluje základní pojmy a přináší dosavadní poznatky v oblasti fungování organizací na základě hierarchie a byrokracie, agilního přístupu, zavádění agilních metodik do organizací a procesu změny. Praktická část slouží k zodpovězení výzkumných otázek pomocí kvalitativního výzkumu, který je založen na zúčastněném pozorování, hloubkových rozhovorech a analýze vybraných dokumentů zkoumané organizace. Diplomová práce přináší vhled do průběhu první fáze agilní transformace, ke které ve zkoumané organizaci došlo. V závěru práce jsou identifikovány výzvy, kterým zaměstnanci v průběhu transformace čelili, a dopady změny na fungování organizace. Přínos této práce spočívá ve zhodnocení průběhu transformace samotnými zaměstnanci zkoumané organizace. Poznatky a zjištění mohou posloužit jako zpětná vazba zkoumané organizaci a zároveň jako ponaučení pro další organizace, které zavedení agilního přístupu teprve zvažují.

Abstract:

The aim of this Master‘s Thesis is to analyze the transformation of a traditional corporation into an agile organization and to define the challenges that employees were dealing with during the transformation (as challenges are considered difficult situations). The case study method was chosen as the main research method. Theoretical part defines the main terms and presents current findings within the topic – hierarchical-bureaucratic organizations, agile methodologies and change management. Practical part is answering the research questions using qualitative research, concluding of at-home ethnography, in-depth interviews and analysis of selected documents. The Master’s Thesis yields an insight into the process of an agile transformation and identifies challenges that employees were dealing with and transformation’s impacts into organization‘s operating model. The contribution of this work lies within the agile transformation assessment by organization’s employees. The findings can be used as a feedback to other organizations that are planning to implement the agile methodologies.
