The Specifics of Foreign Exchange Exposure Management in Logistics: Packeta Group Case Study

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je zaměřit se na kurzové riziko v rámci logistického odvětví a navrhnout možnosti řízení kurzového rizika v praxi, k čemuž poslouží využití případové studie české logistické firmy Packeta Group. Cílem je mimo jiné podívat se na současný stav řízení kurzového rizika ve skupině Packeta, zjistit, zda má firma momentálně k dispozici nějaké instrumenty pro zajištění, a analyzovat možnosti dalších strategií zajištění, které by firma mohla využívat. Práce se dále zaměřuje na otázku, jestli jsou forwardy vhodným finančních derivátem na zajištění kurzového rizika v rámci logistiky a zda by firma v tomto odvětví měla zvážit úvěr v cizí měně, ve které realizuje vedle domácí měny své tržby. Záměrem kapitol práce je poskytnout ucelený teoretický základ pro problematiku kurzového rizika a jeho řízení, což umožní plynulý přechod k praktické části a jejímu adekvátnímu vypracování, jelikož znalosti nabyté v teoretické části budou zavedeny do praxe.

Abstract:

The aim of this master thesis is to focus on the currency risk in the logistics industry and to propose the possibilities of exchange rate risk management in practice, for which the case study of the Czech logistics company Packeta Group will be used. The aim is also to look at the current state of currency risk management in the Packeta Group, to find out if the company currently has any hedging instruments available, and to analyze the possibilities of other hedging strategies that the company could use. The thesis further focuses on the question of whether forwards are a suitable financial derivative to hedge exchange rate risk in the context of logistics and whether a company in this industry should consider a loan in a foreign currency in which it realizes its sales in addition to the domestic currency. Following chapters will provide a comprehensive theoretical basis of the exchange rate risk and its management, which will enable a smooth transition to the practical part and its adequate elaboration, as the knowledge acquired in the theoretical part will be put into practice.
