Evaluation of Multiple Clustering Algorithms on Insurance Datasets

Abstract:

Clusterování je fundamentální technika datové analýzy zaměřená na hledání smysluplných seskupení v datových souborech. Našla uplatnění při analýze dat v pojišťovacím sektoru. Tato práce si klade za cíll prozkoumání, analýzu a srovnání clusterovacích algoritmů na veřejně dostupných pojišťovacích datech. Tato práce obsahuje obecný základ v oblasti běžných clusterovacích algoritmů a metod pro vyhodnocování výsledků clusterování. Dále popisuje proces přípravy dat a použitá data. Klíčovou součástí práce je experiment na připravených datech s využítím vybraných algoritmů (K-Means++, Gaussian Mixture Models, Agglomerative clustering). Metoda Agglomerative clustering se neukázala jako vhodná pro velké datové sady zatímco výsledky K-Means++, Gaussian Mixture Models byly silně závislé na konkrétním výběru analyzovaných vlastností dat.

Abstract:

Clustering is a fundamental data analysis technique focused on uncovering meaningful groupings within datasets. It has found an application in providing valuable insights within the insurance domain. This thesis aims to survey, analyse, and compare clustering algorithms on a publicly available insurance dataset using free, open-source data analytics tools. This thesis provides a theoretical background for common clustering algorithms and clustering evaluation methods. Describes a process of data preparation and describes the data used. An essential part of the thesis is an experiment on the data prepared using a selection of the algorithms described (K-Means++, Gaussian Mixture Models, Agglomerative clustering). Agglomerative clustering did not prove to be a suitable algorithm for large datasets, while the K-Means++, Gaussian Mixture Models delivered results highly dependent on the selection of dimensions analysed.
