Trade relations between Russia and the EU

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá obchodními vztahy Evropské unie a Ruska. Cílem této práce je zhodnotit vzájemné vztahy EU a Ruské federace a vyvodit dopady společné obchodní politiky EU na ekonomiku a obchod obou politických celků. Úvodní část práce je zaměřena na společnou obchodní politiku EU, která upravuje a řídí vztahy s nečlenskými zeměmi. Na tuto část navazuje zhodnocení postavení EU v mezinárodním obchodě se zbožím a službami, které vychází z dostupných statistických dat. K zmapování dopadů SOP na obchodní vztahy mezi EU a Ruskem byl záměrně vybrán jeden historický mezník, který měl pozitivní dopad na vzájemný obchod uzavření Dohody o partnerství a spolupráci, a jeden mezník, který naopak vedl ke snížení a omezení obchodu mezi oběma stranami sankce uvalené EU proti Rusku v důsledku ukrajinské krize. Provedená analýza ukázala, že po uzavření Dohody o partnerství a spolupráci se vzájemný obchod a spolupráce EU a Ruska výrazně navýšily. EU se postupně stala hlavním odbytištěm pro ruské vývozy a celkový obchod mezi oběma celky se v letech 1995-2003 více než zdvojnásobil. Naopak sankce uvalené EU proti Rusku způsobily oslabení obou ekonomik a vzájemný obchod výrazně omezily.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with trade relations between EU and Russia. The aim of my thesis is to asses the relation of the EU and Russian Federation and to reveal the impact of Common Commercial Policy of the European Union on the economy and trade for both of these political units. The first part is devoted to the Common Comercial Policy of the EU, which is regulates and manages the relations with non-EU countries. This section builds on the EU's position on international trade in goods and services based on available statistical data. To match the impact of the SOP on EU-Russia trade relations, one historic milestone has been deliberately chosen, which has had a positive impact on mutual trade - the conclusion of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement and one milestone, which in turn led to the reduction and restriction of trade between the two sides sanctions against Russia as a result of the Ukrainian crisis. The analysis has shown that, after the conclusion of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, trade and cooperation between the EU and Russia have increased significantly. The EU has gradually become the main outlet for Russian exports and total trade between the two units has more than doubled between 1995 and 2003. On the contrary, the sanctions imposed on the EU against Russia caused the weakening of both economies and trade between them.
