The mammary gland is formed by a branched epithelium surrounded by a stroma composed of an extracellular matrix and a wide variety of cells, including fibroblasts. The development of the mammary gland is regulated by bi-directional interactions between the epithelium and the stroma, which are mediated by many signaling pathways. Mliečna žľaza je tvorená rozvetveným epitelom a strómou, zloženou z extracelulárnej matrix a širokej škály buniek, medzi ktoré patria aj fibroblasty. Vývoj mliečnej žľazy je regulovaný obojsmernými interakciami medzi epitelom a strómou, ktoré sú sprostredkované mnohými signálnymi dráhami.
