Femme Fatale in the Fantastic Story

Abstract:

This MA thesis deals with the role of femme fatale in the plot of the fantastic story. The basic corpus, which is being worked with, contains fifteen works of the French fantastic literature of the nineteenth century. The aim of this MA thesis is to observe the cooperation of two plots: fantastic plot, which is given by the genre of the story, and sentimental plot, which is given by the presence of the theme of femme fatale. First, the heroines which could be characterized as femmes fatales are divided into categories according to their position towards the fantastic element. This basic kind of typology serves as the basis of the following analysis of particular stories from the point of view of the cooperation of the fantastic and the sentimental plot. Psychology of the femmes fatales is also being dealt with here. Partial analyses result in general conclusions concerning the coexistence of the above mentioned plots and their interdependence and conditionality.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá rolí femme fatale, neboli osudové ženy, v zápletce fantastického příběhu. Základní korpus, se kterým se pracuje, se skládá z patnácti děl francouzské fantastické literatury 19. století. Cílem této diplomové práce je pozorování kooperace dvou zápletek: zápletky fantastické, která je dána žánrem příběhu, a sentimentální, která je dána přítomností tématu femme fatale. Jednotlivé představitelky femme fatale jsou nejdříve rozděleny do skupin na základě jejich vztahu k fantastičnu. Tato základní typologie slouží jako východisko pro následnou analýzu jednotlivých povídek z pohledu spolupráce fantastické a sentimentální zápletky. Pozornost je rovněž věnována psychologii představitelek femme fatale. Dílčí analýzy přinášejí všeobecné závěry týkající se koexistence výše zmíněných zápletek a jejich vzájemné závislosti a podmíněnosti.
