The depiction of war in the work of V.Astafyev (based on the novel "Prokliaty i ubity" ("The Cursed and the Slain")

Abstract:

This master's thesis is devoted to the study of the concept of war in Viktor Astafyev’ novel Prokliaty i ubity (The Cursed and the Slain) and contextual background of the work, the author’s attitude to this phenomenon and the specifics of the novel in the writer's work context. The first chapter reviews the history of the development of military prose from the 11th century to the end of the 20th century. The second chapter is dedicated to the important stages of the biography and work of Victor Astafyev, it also gives a brief overview of the writer's works on war theme. The third chapter analyzes various aspects of the depiction of the war on the material of the novel The Cursed and the Slain. In the fourth chapter, we concentrated on the contextual background of the novel Cursed and the Slain, we have analyzed the short novels of K.Vorobyov Slain Near Moscow and V. Bykov The Dead Feel No Pain. Finally, we concluded about the peculiarities of Astafyev’s late prose, the originality of the image of the war in his novel Prokliaty i ubity (The Cursed and the Slain) based on a comparison with the short novels of Vorobyov and Bykov.

Abstract:

Magisterská diplomová práce je věnována zkoumání koncepce války v románu Viktora Astafjeva Prokletí a zabití, a také kontextuálního pozadí díla, odhalení vztahu autora k tomuto jevu a zjištění specifika uměleckého světa románu v kontextu děl Astafjeva. První kapitola představuje přehled dějin ruské válečné prózy z XI. po XX. století. Ve druhé kapitole se zabýváme důležitými fázemi života a tvorby V. Astafjeva, а také podáváme stručný přehled jeho děl s válečnou tematikou. Třetí kapitola magisterské diplomové práce je rozbor různých aspektů zobrazení války na materiálu románu Prokletí a zabití. V čtvrté kapitole jsme se soustředili na kontextuálním pozadí románu Prokletí a zabití a provedli rozbor novel Konstantina Vorobjeva (Zabili je u Moskvy) a Vasil'a Bykova (Mrtvé to nebolí). Na závěr jsme popsali zvláštnosti pozdější prózy Astafjeva, svéráznosti zobrazení války v jeho románu Prokletí a zabití na základě porovnání s novelami Vorobjova a Bykova.
