Anotácia:

This thesis is based on an action research that took place during author’s teaching practice in the 9th grade of lower secondary school Husova, Brno. Theoretical part of the thesis mainly focuses on the overview of general notions connected with teaching speaking in the classroom, as well as on theoretical view on role-play as a teaching tool. Next, practical part describes in details the action research that was carried out. It consists of description and analysis of several data sources, e.g. observations, interviews, students’ and observers’ questionnaire, author’s reflections. The aim of the research is to find out whether active participation in role-plays could help to enhance speaking skills of the students and in which way.
