Lifestyle at the turn of 19th and 20th centuries and its reflection in Alfons Mucha’s work

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá souvislostmi mezi tvorbou Alfonse Muchy a stylem života na přelomu 19. a 20. století v Paříži. První část práce vysvětluje pojem secese, zmiňuje významná secesní díla a zabývá se středisky secese v Evropě s důrazem na pařížské prostředí. Další část práce je zaměřena na Alfonse Muchu. Zmiňuje jeho umělecké začátky, období studií i vlivy na jeho tvorbu. Důraz je kladen na jeho pařížskou tvorbu a její souvislosti s požadavky doby na přelomu 19. a 20. století.

Abstract:

This thesis describes connection between Alfons Mucha’s work and the lifestyle at the turn of 19th and 20th century in Paris. First part of the dissertation explains the idea of Art Noveau, mentions important works inspired by Art Noveau, and looks into the main centres of Art Noveau in Europe with the emphasis on Parisian environment. The other part of this thesis is focused on Alfons Mucha. It mentions his early days in his art career, studies and influences on his work. The stress is put on his Parisian work and its connection with demands of the epoch at the edge of 19th and 20th century.
