Analysis of influence of selected sociodemographic factors on young people attitudes towards marriage

Abstract:

Práce zkoumá proměnu postojů mladých lidí k instituci manželství a souběžně s tím i k nesezdanému soužití v první dekádě 21. století v kontextu s vybranými sociodemografickými faktory (věk, pohlaví, víra, vzdělání, rodinný stav). Na základě těchto výsledků pak odhaluje, zdali fenomén nesezdaného soužití nezačíná postupně v České republice přebírat funkci manželství, podobně jako je tomu ve vyspělých západních a severských evropských zemích. Teoretická část se zabývá vývojem sňatečnosti během 20. století, důvody poklesu sňatečnosti, postoji k manželství po roce 1989. Komplexně také pojednává o výzkumech provedených na toto téma v druhé polovině 90. let 20. století a na počátku 21. století. Empirická část navazuje na dosud provedené výzkumy a v souvislosti s vybranými sociodemografickými ukazateli zkoumá vývoj a proměnu názorů na instituci manželství u mladých lidí ve věku 18-39 let. Výzkum má podobu sekundární analýzy datového souboru „Naše společnost 2003 a 2009“ realizovaného Centrem pro výzkum veřejného mínění (CVVM).

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on the change of attitude of young people to the institute of marriage as well as into the phenomenon of cohabitation in the first decade of the 21st century in the context with selected socio-demographic factors (age, sex, religion, education, marital status). On the basis of these results the thesis reveals whether the phenomenon of cohabitation starts to take over the function of marriage as is the situation in developed European western countries and in Scandinavia. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the development of marriage rate during the 20th century, the reasons of a decline in marriage rate as well as the general attitude to marriage after the year 1989. It also focuses on research done on this topic in the late 1990s and in the early 2000s. The empirical part of the thesis builds on research conducted so far and investigates in relation with a few selected socio-demographic indicators the development and change of opinions of young people aged between 18 – 39 years on the institute of marriage. The research takes the form of a secondary analysis of the data file “Our Society 2003 and 2009” implemented by the Centre for Public Opinion Research.
