Hydrotalcite based Mg-Fe mixed oxides: acidobasic properties related to material composition

Abstract:

Diplomová práce pojednává o MgFe směsných oxidech na bázi hydrotalcitů. Pozornost této práce je zaměřena především na acidobazické vlastnosti a vlivy složení a syntézy. Byly studovány vzorky s různými Mg/Fe poměry a různými aniontovými prekurzory. Experimentálními technikami teplotně programované desorpce a infračervené spektroskopie s Fourierovou transformací pomocí testovacích molekul oxidu uhličitého a amoniaku byly studovány acidobazické vlastnosti oxidů. Bylo ukázáno, že tyto techniky poskytují komplementární informace a komplexní pohled na množství, strukturu a distribuci kyselých a bazických center na povrchu materiálu. Získaná data byla doplněna dostupnými informacemi o struktuře oxidů získaných z technik rentgenové difrakce (XRD), termogravimetrie (TG) a dále N2-fyzisorpce. Bylo zjištěno, že strukturní a acidobazické vlastnosti oxidů jsou závislé na Mg/Fe poměru a na druhu aniontového prekurzoru. Vybrané směsné Mg/Fe oxidy byly dále studovány jako heterogenní katalyzátory aldolové kondenzace furfuralu s acetonem. Aktivita oxidů v této reakci byla korelována se získanými daty z charakterizace.

Abstract:

This master´s thesis deals with MgFe mixed oxides based on hydrotalcites. The attention of this work is focused mainly on the acid-base properties and the effects of composition and synthesis. Samples were prepared with different Mg/Fe ratios and various anionic precursors. Experimental techniques of temperature programmed desorption and infrared spectroscopy with Fourier transformation using carbon dioxide and ammonia as probe molecules were utilized to study acid-base properties of oxides. These techniques have been shown to provide complementary information and a comprehensive view of the amount, structure and distribution of acidic and basic centers on the surface of the material. The obtained data was supplemented with available information on the structure of X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetry (TG) and N2-physisorption techniques. It has been found that the structural and acid-base properties of oxides are dependent on the Mg/Fe ratio and the type of anionic precursor. The selected mixed Mg/Fe oxides were further studied as heterogeneous catalysts of aldol condensation of furfural with acetone. The activity of the oxides in this reaction was correlated with the data obtained from the characterization.
