Well-being, aspirations, depressivity and social support in gifted students

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá zkoumáním vzájemných vztahů mezi osobní pohodou, aspiracemi, depresivitou a vnímanou sociální oporou u vzorku nadaných studentů. Cílem bylo také zjistit, zda se nějak liší nadaní studenti od běžných studentů v míře sledovaných proměnných. Výzkumný soubor tvoří celkem 141 respondentů (70 nadaných a 71 běžných studentů) ve věku 15-23 let. Použity byly metody Mental Health Continuum – Short Form (Keyes, 2002), Aspiration Index (Kasser,  Ryan, 1996), Centre for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (Radloff, 1977) a Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (Zimet, Dalem, Zimet,  Farley, 1988). Součástí testové baterie bylo také šest otevřených otázek, ve kterých jsme od respondentů zjišťovali, co nejvíce přispívá k jejich dobré osobní pohodě, za co jsou ve svém životě nejvíce vděční, jaké mají životní cíle v osobní a profesní oblasti, na co by chtěli mít ve svém životě vliv a jakou změnu v české společnosti by v nejbližších letech rádi uvítali. Získaná data byla zpracována pomocí statistického programu SPSS a výsledky jsou uvedeny v závěrečné diskuzi této práce.

Abstract:

This thesis examines the relations among well-being, aspirations, depressivity and perceived social support in a sample of gifted students. The aim was also to find of if there is a difference between gifted and non-gifted students in examined variables. The reasearch sample consists of 141 respondents in total (70 gifted and 71 non-gifted students ) at the age from 15 to 23. Following methods were used in the study: Mental Health Continuum – Short Form (Keyes, 2002), Aspiration Index (Kasser,  Ryan, 1996), Centre for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (Radloff, 1977) and Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (Zimet, Dalem, Zimet,  Farley, 1988). Part of the test battery were also six open-ended questions, in which we asked the respondents what contributes most to their well-being, what they are most gratefull for in their lives, what are their personal and proffesional life goals, what they would like to have influence on in their lives and what kind of social change in Czech society they would appreciate in next few years. The obtained data were processed using SPSS statistical programme and the results are presented in the discussion of this thesis
