Comparison of Descartes's and Locke's Concept of Mind

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce je zaměřena na objasnění karteziánského pojetí lidské mysli a jeho problémů. Tomuto pojetí mysli bude v hlavní řadě oponovat teorie mysli Johna Locka. Z karteziánského pojetí mysli vychází jako výsledek dualismus, popisující tělo a mysl jako rozdílné entity. K tomuto výsledku dochází obratem člověka k sobě samému pomocí jeho vnitřního nazírání. Objasnění rozdílu těla a mysli se pokládá v případě Re-ného Descarta za cíl celého problému. Jeho oponent bude argumentovat interpretací identity, díky které definuje vědomí. Dále se John Locke zabývá vlastnostmi objektů, které vnímáme a tím, jak díky těmto vlastnostem dokáže mysl pracovat. Díky jeho em-pirismu se ideje a tedy i poznání nerodí spolu s naší existencí, nýbrž nabýváme ho až zkušeností. Poznání tedy není vrozené. Práce bude doplněna moderními metodami a terminologií, které souvisejí s pojetím psychofyzického problému a poukazují na posun v jeho problematice od dob obou filosofů. Dále bude moderní pojetí doplněno filmový-mi snímky, které znázorňují návaznost především na myšlenky Reného Descarta.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis is focused on clarifying the Cartesian conception of human mind and its problems. This conception of mind will be the main line of opposing theo-ries of mind of John Locke. The Cartesian conception of the mind comes as a result of dualism, describing the body and mind as a different entity. This result arises turnover of man to himself through his inner perception. Clarifying the difference between the body and the mind in the case of René Descartes is considered aim of the problem. His opponent will argue by interpretations of identity, through which defines consciousness. Furthermore, John Locke deals with the properties of objects that we perceive and how the mind can work through these properties. With his empiricism ideas and knowledge are not born together with our existence but we acquire it through experience. Therefore knowledge is not innate. The thesis will be complemented by modern methods and ter-minology related to the concept of psychophysical problem and point to a shift in its issue since the two philosophers. It will also be complemented by the modern concept of films that depict mainly with the ideas of René Descartes.
