The relevance of financial statements for capital markets in the banking sector in the EU

Abstract:

V této diplomové práci se zabývám problematikou relevance účetních závěrek na cenu akcií bank obchodovaných na veřejně přístupných burzách v EU. V první kapitole poskytuji náhled na bankovní sektor jako takový, nahlížím na byznys model bank, regulaci a základní ekonomické indikátory. Následně se v této práci pouštím do problematiky, jak se účetní pro analýzu akcií využívají a jaké investiční strategie jsou využívány. V závěru práce se pouštím již do samotné analýzy dat a pomocí různých modelů se snažím přijít na odpověď otázky, jestli jsou účetní data pro určení ceny akcie veřejně obchodovaných bank v EU relevantní, či nikoliv.

Abstract:

In this thesis, I address the issue of the relevance of financial statements to the stock prices of publicly traded banks in the EU. The first chapter provides an overview of the banking sector, including the business model of banks, regulation, and basic economic indicators. Subsequently, I delve into the use of financial statements for stock analysis and the investment strategies employed. In the final part of the thesis, I analyze the data using various models to answer the question of whether financial statements are relevant for determining the stock prices of publicly traded banks in the EU or not.
