It's Gonna Get Worse: the Crudeness and the Artistic Ambition

Abstract:

V předložené práci jsem použila konceptu neoformalistické filmové teorie, abych analyzovala český film …a bude hůř. Nástroje neoformalistické filmové analýzy mi pomohly předvést, v čem spočívá hlavní formální princip zvoleného snímku. Definice hlavního formálního principu, neboli dominanty, byla základním cílem této práce. Nejdříve jsem analyzovala ekonomický a kulturně-historický kontext, při čemž jsem se zaměřila především na způsob distribuce a prezentace díla. Tyto aspekty považuji u …a bude hůř za výjimečné, odlišující tento film od ostatních. Poté jsem přistoupila k samotné neoformalistické analýze, a to jak naratologické, tak stylistické. Za výrazný lze u vybraného snímku považovat princip syrovosti, který koresponduje s jeho tématem. Ten je však „narušován“ zakomponováním umělecky motivovaných prvků se snahou o hlubší přesahy. Dominantu jsem proto souhrnně vyjádřila jako kombinaci mezi principem syrovosti a uměleckou ambicí. V závěru práce jsem navrhla implicitní a symptomatické významy filmu.

Abstract:

In this thesis I used a concept of a neoformalism film theory to analyse Czech picture called …a bude hůř (It´s Gonna Get Worse). Instruments of neoformalism film analysing helped me to demonstrate what is a main formal principle of this picture. The definition of the main formal principle – dominant is a pivotal aim of this thesis. Firstly, in an effort to keep an ideal of historical objectivity I analyzed an economic and cultural-historical context of the picture. Mostly, I focused on a method of distribution and a way of presentation, because in this aspect is film very unusual and different from others. Secondly, I made the neoformalistic analysis, consisted of an analysis of a narration and an analysis of a film style. The narration has, from my point of view, a very basic linear construction and the film style correspond to it. Finally, as the dominant I identified a combination of a crudeness and artistic intention. The main aim of the picture is to showcase the crudeness of a situation of choice group of people and to inform all spectator about that in a very authentic way. But the crudeness is not total because an use of artistic motivated means disturb it in some cases. To this principle are conformed all means of the film form. In the end, I tried to interpret implicit and symptomatic significations of the picture.
