Comparison of the media image of the Chinese president's visit to the Czech Republic through the optics of the main TV news in selected TV stations

Abstract:

Diplomová práce si klade za cíl komparovat mediální obraz návštěvy čínského prezidenta Si Ťin-pchinga v České republice optikou hlavních televizních zpravodajských relací. Zkoumanými televizními stanicemi v období od 14. března do 13. dubna 2016 jsou Česká televize, TV Nova a TV Barrandov. Právě TV Barrandov je v práci nejčastěji akcentována, protože v době návštěvy čínského prezidenta držela v televizi vlastnický podíl čínská skupina CEFC. Zároveň Bezpečnostní informační služba ve svých výročních zprávách popisuje čínskou kontrarozvědnou činnost na území České republiky. Metodou kvantitativní obsahové analýzy se došlo k závěru, že TV Barrandov oproti konkurenčním stanicím poskytla události více prostoru, značně selektovala a eliminovala témata i zdroje a objektivita reportáží byla nižší. Zároveň byly v reportážích TV Barrandov přítomny propagandistické prvky.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis aims to compare the media image of the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping in the Czech Republic, through the optics of the main television news reports. The investigated TV stations are Czech Television, TV Nova and TV Barrandov, in the period under review from March 14 to April 13, 2016. TV Barrandov is most accentuated in the diploma thesis, as the Chinese CEFC group held the ownership interest at the time of the Chinese president's visit. At the same time, the Security Information Service describes its counter-intelligence activities in the Czech Republic in its annual reports. Using the method of quantitative content analysis, it was concluded that TV Barrandov provided more space than competing stations, selectively selected and eliminated topics and resources, and the objectivity of reports was lower. At the same time, propaganda elements were present in TV Barrandov's reports.
