Cultural differences in maternity

Abstract:

Práce se zaměřuje na kulturní odlišnosti v období těhotenství, porodu a šestinedělí u mongolské, romské a vietnamské minority. Cíl: Zmapovat kulturní specifika mongolských, romských a vietnamský žen v období mateřství. Zjistit, jestli u těchto vybraných respondentek probíhalo mateřství v souladu s jejich tradicemi a přesvědčením a zda respondentky byly spokojeny s péčí porodní asistentky. Metodika: Ve výzkumném šetření byla použita metoda kvalitativního výzkumu. Tento výzkum byl zvolen záměrně z důvodu spolupráce s malým souborem respondentek na základě řízených rozhovorů kombinované se záměrným pozorováním bez nároku na statistickou reprezentativnost. Výzkum vycházel z kvalitativní analýzy a objasnění získaných informací, pomocí kterých bude možné lépe porozumět prožívání mateřství romské a dvou neevropských minorit žijících v České republice. Výsledky: Na základě analýzy dat byly vytyčeny kategorie a podkategorie: 1. Těhotenství (podkategorie Prožívání těhotenství, Plánování těhotenství, Prenatální poradna, Předporodní kurz, Cvičení v těhotenství, Pohlavní styk, Zaměstnání, Životní styl). 2. Porod (podkategorie Strach z porodu, Doprovod u porodu, Polohy při porodu, Porod v domácím prostředí, Rituály). 3. Šestinedělí (podkategorie Podpora v šestinedělí, Kojení, Rooming-in, Pohlaví dítěte, Rituály spojené s narozením dítěte, Návštěva porodní asistentky, Dětská poradna). 4. Sociokulturní charakteristiky (podkategorie Problém ve vztahu respondentka a porodní asistentka, Počet dětí, Antikoncepce, Zdraví a prevence dětí, Důvěra). Analýzou rozhovorů byla zmapována specifika kulturních odlišností v mateřství tří minorit. Bylo zjištěno, že romské a dvě vybrané asijské minority byly spokojeny s péčí porodní asistentky a že jejich mateřství probíhalo se zachováním jejich tradic a přesvědčení. Závěr: Pochopení jiných kultur a respekt k nim jsou předpokladem dobré spolupráce.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis focuses on cultural differences of Mongolian, Romany and Vietnamese women during the pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium. Aim: To chart the cultural specifics of Mongolian, Romany and Vietnamese women during the maternity. To find out if the maternity period of these chosen respondents passed off in compliance with their traditions and belief and if the respondents were content with the midwives care. Methodology: The qualitative research was used. This type of research was chosen intentionally because of the low number of respondents that came through controlled interviews combined with deliberate observation without claim on statistical presentability. The research proceeded from the qualitative analysis and got information that helped us to better understand the maternity experience of Romany and two non European minorities living in the Czech republic. Results: On the basis of the analysis the categories and subcategories were defined: 1. Pregnancy (subcategory Going through the pregnancy, Planning the pregnancy, Prenatal care, Prenatal course, Exercise during the pregnancy, Sex (sexual intercourse), Work, Life style). 2. Childbirth (subcategory Fear of the childbirth, Accompany at the childbirth, Childbirth positions, Childbirth at home, Rituals). 3. Puerperium (subcategory Support during the puerperium, Breastfeeding, Rooming-in, Sex of the child, Rituals connected with the childbirth, Midwife visit, Regular child´s visit at the pediatrician). 4. Sociocultural characteristics (subcategory Problem in relationship between a respondent and a midwife, Number of children, Contraception, Children´s health and prevention, Trust). The cultural differences were found out in the analysis during the maternity of the three minorities. It was discovered that Romany and two chosen Asian minorities were satisfied with the midwife´s care and their maternity passed off with maintenance of their traditions and belief. Conclusion:Understanding other cultures and respecting them is condition of good cooperation.
