Politics and emotions

Abstract:

Tato práce se zaměřuje na vývoj pojmu emocí v různých vědních oborech, včetně sociologie, filosofie, psychologie a speciálních věd. V jejím rámci je analyzováno, jak se v těchto oborech přistupuje k emocím a jakým způsobem se emocemi zabývají. Zároveň se práce zaměřuje na stávající politologické přístupy k emocím, včetně teorie afektivního uvažování, teorie afektivní inteligence (Affective Intelligence Theory - AIT) a konceptu diskrétních emocí. Cílem této práce je podrobněji prozkoumat současný stav a přístupy k emocím v politice a jejich roli v politickém dění. Práce se zabývá emocionálním rozměrem politiky, s důrazem na role emocí v politických kampaních, veřejném diskursu a rozhodovacích procesech. Nabízí možný podklad pro budoucí zkoumání, které by se mohlo zaměřit na konkrétní emoce v politice, jejich vliv na veřejné mínění, voličské chování a formování politických postojů. Lepší porozumění emocionálnímu aspektu politiky by mohlo přispět k efektivnějšímu politickému rozhodování a vytváření strategií, a tím i ke zlepšení demokratického procesu. Emoce jsou nedílnou součástí lidského života a jejich role ve společnosti, včetně politiky, by neměla být opomíjena. Snažíme se překročit tradiční pohled na emocionální a racionální aspekt politiky a vyzvat k jejich vzájemnému propojení. Zjištění naznačují, že dominanci rozumu začíná nahrazovat uznání emocí jako nedílné součásti lidského života. Studium emocí v průběhu času ukazuje, že vědecké obory mají odlišné názory a přístupy k chápání emocí, což může vést ke konfliktům a nedorozuměním. Tím se klade otázka, zda je možné rozum a emoce jednoznačně oddělit, nebo zda vyžadují komplexnější a provázanější pohled. V závěru je potvrzeno, že emocionální rozměr je neoddělitelnou součástí politiky a ovlivňuje různé aspekty politického života. Politické strategie a kampaně stále více využívají emočního působení na voliče s cílem získat jejich podporu. Současná politologie se s tímto jevem vyrovnává prostřednictvím teorií, které kombinují racionální a emocionální prvky a analyzují jejich interakce. Nicméně, i přes pokrok v pochopení vztahu mezi emocemi a politikou zůstává mnoho otázek nezodpovězených a otevřených.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the development of the concept of emotions in various disciplines, including sociology, philosophy, psychology, and special sciences. It analyses how emotions are approached and dealt with in these disciplines. At the same time, the thesis focuses on existing political science approaches to emotions, including affective reasoning theory, Affective Intelligence Theory (AIT), and the concept of discrete emotions. This thesis aims to explore in more detail the current status and approaches to emotions in politics and their role in political events. The thesis focuses on the emotional dimension of politics, with an emphasis on the role of emotions in political campaigns, public discourse, and decision-making processes. It offers a possible basis for future research that could focus on specific emotions in politics, their influence on public opinion, voter behavior, and the formation of political attitudes. A better understanding of the emotional aspect of politics could contribute to more effective political decision- and strategy-making, and thus improve the democratic process. Emotions are an integral part of human life and their role in society, including politics, should not be neglected. We seek to go beyond the traditional view of the emotional and rational aspects of politics and call for their interconnection. The findings suggest that the dominance of reason is beginning to be replaced by the recognition of emotions as an integral part of human life. The study of emotions over time shows that scientific disciplines have different views and approaches to understanding emotions, which can lead to conflict and misunderstanding. This raises the question of whether reason and emotion can be separated or whether they require a more complex and interrelated view. The conclusion confirms that the emotional dimension is an inseparable part of politics and influences various aspects of political life. Increasingly, political strategies and campaigns use emo-tional influence on voters to gain their support. Contemporary political science deals with this phenomenon through theories that combine rational and emotional elements and analyse their interactions. However, despite the progress in understanding the relationship between emotions and politico-ethics, many questions remain unanswered and open.
