Digital inequalities

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá konceptem informační společnosti a s ním souvisejícím fenoménem digitální propasti, který představuje významný problém, ovlivňující přístup k informačním a komunikačním technologiím a mající hluboký dopad na sociální a ekonomickou rovnost. Teoretická část zahrnuje definice, vývoj a důsledky informační společnosti a digitální propasti, včetně faktorů, které k ní přispívají. Praktická část se zaměřuje na komparativní analýzu současné digitální situace České republiky pomocí tří klíčových indexů: ICT Development Index (IDI), Network Readiness Index (NRI) a The Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI). Cílem této analýzy je identifikovat silné a slabé stránky v digitální výkonnosti ČR ve srovnání s evropským průměrem a průměrem příjmové skupiny. Na základě získaných dat a provedených SWOT analýz práce identifikuje klíčové oblasti vyžadující zlepšení. Hlavním cílem práce je formulace konkrétních strategií a doporučení pro efektivní snižování digitálních nerovností a zlepšení využívání digitálních technologií v České republice. Tyto strategie staví na již zavedených iniciativách a snaží se je dále rozvíjet a optimalizovat. Zahrnují zlepšení infrastruktury, podporu digitálního vzdělávání, zlepšení dostupnosti mobilních dat, kybernetické bezpečnosti a kvality veřejných digitálních služeb. Cílem je nejen podpořit digitální inkluzi a rovnost, ale také přispět k celkovému zvýšení kvality života občanů prostřednictvím těchto vylepšení.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis explores the concept of the information society and the related phenomenon of the digital divide, which presents a significant problem affecting access to information and communication technologies and having a profound impact on social and economic equality. The theoretical part elaborates on the definitions, development, and consequences of the information society and the digital divide, including the factors that contribute to it. The practical part focuses on a comparative analysis of the current digital situation in the Czech Republic using three key indices: the ICT Development Index (IDI), the Network Readiness Index (NRI), and The Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI). The goal of this analysis is to identify strengths and weaknesses in the digital performance of the Czech Republic compared to the European average and income group average. Based on the data obtained and the SWOT analyses conducted, the thesis identifies key areas requiring improvement. The main objective of the thesis is to formulate specific strategies and recommendations for effectively reducing digital inequalities and improving the utilization of digital technologies in the Czech Republic. These strategies build on already established initiatives and aim to further develop and optimize them. They include improvements in infrastructure, support for digital education, enhancement of mobile data availability, cybersecurity, and the quality of public digital services. The goal is not only to support digital inclusion and equality but also to contribute to the overall improvement of citizens' quality of life through these enhancements.
