Information processing theory: models and applications

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce „Teorie zpracování informací – modely a aplikace“ pojednává o teorii zpracování informací, která položila základy moderních kognitivních věd a jako paradigmatický model formovala i výzkum v informační vědě. První část práce se zaměřuje na charakteristiku této teorie, zasazení do kontextu vědy a její transdisciplinaritu, dále je zde řešena její rozmanitá terminologie, představení hlavních představitelů a vybraných modelů zpracování informací. Mezi probírané modely jsou zařazeny Broadbentův model, paměťový model od Atkinsona a Shiffrina, model pracovní paměti Baddeleyho a Hitche a Wickensův model. Druhá část se soustřeďuje na proces zpracování informací skrze kognitivní procesy člověka, jako je čití, vnímání, pozornost a paměť. Největší důraz je však kladen na paměťové zpracování. Třetí část je orientována na oblast aplikace modelů příslušné teorie do praktických činností. A nakonec čtvrtá část se nejprve zaměřuje na tuto teorii jako na model kognitivního paradigmatu a dále přechází do oblasti kritiky dané teorie a paradigmatu.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis "Information Processing Theory – Models and Applications" deals with the theory of information processing, which laid the foundations of modern cognitive sciences and as a paradigmatic model also shaped a research in information science. The first part of the thesis focuses on the characteristics of this theory, on the placement in the context of science and its transdisciplinarity, it also deals with its diverse terminology, introduction of the main representatives and selected models of information processing. The models discussed include the Broadbent’s model, the Atkinson-Shiffrin memory model, The working memory model by Baddeley and Hitch, and the Wickens‘s model. The second part focuses on the process of information processing through human cognitive processes, such as sensing, perception, attention and memory. However, the greatest emphasis is placed on the memory processing. The third part is focused on the application of models of the relevant theory to practical activities. Finally, the fourth part at first focuses on this theory as on a model of the cognitive paradigm and then moves on to the critique of the theory and paradigm.
