The Profile and the Functions of the Arts Manager

Anotace:

Anotace Diplomová práce „Profil a funkce uměleckého manažera“ vychází z hypotézy, že definováním profilu a funkce uměleckého manažera s ohledem na ukotvení těchto pojmů v literatuře managementu lze obhájit jeho potřebu v umělecké organizaci. Na základě existujících definicí manažera obecně, které jsou dány převážně zahraniční odbornou literaturou, se diplomová práce zaměřuje na pojem umělecký manažer jakožto specifický pojem manažera, dále na aktivity a činnosti, které manažer vykonává, a které jsou pro umělecký management charakteristické. Obor uměleckého managementu a termín umělecký manažer u nás nemá příliš dlouhou tradici ve svém moderním pojetí, a jako pojem není dostatečně definován. S ohledem na manažerskou literaturu práce definuje pojem manažer a tuto definici dále aplikuje na uměleckého manažera v kultuře. Na základě literatury zabývající se uměleckým managementem je definován soubor znalostí, schopností a činností, které jsou pro manažera v umění typické, a které pro svoji práci potřebuje. Práce nabízí analýzu manažerských funkcí s aplikací na oblast uměleckého managementu. Je zde znázorněn obsah činnosti uměleckého manažera vycházející z obecně definovaných manažerských funkcí a jeho konkrétní specifika a odlišnosti. Teoretická část práce shrnuje současné poznatky převážně anglofonní manažerské literatury, zabývající se jak uměleckým managementem tak managementem obecně. Zjištěné poznatky teoretické části práce o profilu a funkcích uměleckého manažera jsou zkoumány v kontextu praxe umělecké organizace. Konkrétně tyto teoretické poznatky ověřujeme jejich aplikací na fungování Národního divadla Brno.

Abstract:

Annotation The diploma thesis entitled „The Profile and the Functions of the Arts Manager“ is based on the hypothesis that defining the profile and the functions of the arts manager taking definitions of these functions in the management literature into account, can justify its need in the art organization. Based on the existing definition of a manager in general mostly in a foreign literature, the diploma thesis focuses on the concept of the arts manager as a specific form of a manager. It examines the typical arts management activities that manager encounters on a daily bases. The arts management discipline and arts manager concept does not have a long tradition in our enviroment as those have been viewed in a modern time. The term „manager“ is defined in the management literature in general and is applied with a considerations of the specific artistic environment. Based on the literature dealing with the artistic management the essential knowledge, skills and activities typical for a manager and necessary for their work are defined. The diploma thesis analyses managerial functions within the theory of management and applies these definitions on the field of arts management. The diploma thesis emphasises the arts manager activities based on management functions and its specific features and differences. The theoretical part of the thesis summarizes the current knowledge of management mainly in the English literature dealing with both the artistic management and the general management. The outcomes of the theoretical part of the diploma thesis, the profile and the features of the arts manager, are examined in the context of artistic practice in the arts organization. Specifically, the diploma thesis applies these findings to the National Theatre Brno.
