Communication Strategies in Newspapers: Analysis of Language in Crime News Reports

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to provide an overview of some theories that can be used for the analysis of news discourse and apply them on a sample of news reports from a British quality press, The Guardian. The analysis focuses on news reports concerning crime in attempt to reveal some of the tendencies and communication strategies that are used for the representation of this social phenomenon in the newspaper. The framework applied in the analytical part is based on approaches which are interdisciplinary, but its main focus is on the linguistic features of the news texts

Abstract:

Tato práce si klade za cíl představit některé z teorií, které mohou být využity pro analýzu zpravodajského diskurzu a aplikovat je na menší vzorek zpráv z britského kvalitního tisku, The Guardian. Analýza se zaměřuje na zprávy zabývající se kriminalitou se snahou odhalit některé z tendencí a komunikačních strategií používané v novinách k prezentování tohoto sociálního jevu. Přestože koncepce aplikovaná v analytické části je založena na přístupech, které jsou interdisciplinární, jejím hlavním zaměřením je jazyková rovina zpravodajských textů
