Empathy and altruism in helping professions

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá empatií a altruismem u pomáhajících oborů. Je rozdělena na část teoretickou a výzkumnou. Teoretická část se v první kapitole věnuje vymezení pojmu empatie, jeho vývojem, různými pojetími empatie, jejími druhy empatie a osobnostně-psychologickými předpoklady. Druhá kapitola nejdříve charakterizuje pojem altruismus, vymezuje rozdíly mezi pojmy pomáhání, prosociální chování a altruismus. Dále se zabývá různými definicemi altruismu, vymezením pojmu pomáhání, termínu prosociálního chování, popisuje působící činitele a druhy altruismu. Třetí kapitola věnuje pozornost pojmům jako jsou pomáhající obory a profese, angažovaný a neagažovaný pracovník. Dále jsou popsány rizika pomáhajících profesí, syndrom vyhoření a syndrom pomáhajícího a pojem dobrovolnictví. Poslední kapitola teoretické části se zaměřuje na definování pojmu dobrovolnictví, jeho terminologií a motivy. Druhá část diplomové práce popisuje realizovaný výzkum, jenž měl celkem pět cílů. Prvním bylo zjistit úroveň empatie a prosociálních tendencí u studentek oboru Zdravotnický asistent Střední zdravotnické školy a porovnat je se studenty gymnázií. Druhým cílem bylo zjistit, zda se tyto dva podsoubory statisticky významným způsobem liší z hlediska frekvence jejich odpovědi na otázku, zda studentky někdy pracovaly jako dobrovolnice. Třetím cílem bylo zjistit úroveň jednotlivých prosociálních tendencí a empatie u podskupiny studentek, které uvedly, že pracovaly jako dobrovolnice a porovnat je se zjištěnou úrovní prosociálních tendencí a empatie u podskupiny studentek, které uvedly, že nepracovaly jako dobrovolnice. Čtvrtým cílem bylo prozkoumat vzájemné vztahy mezi zjištěným prosociálními tendencemi a složkami empatie u obou těchto zkoumaných podskupin zvlášť a také u celého souboru. Posledním cílem bylo prozkoumat vzájemné vztahy mezi zjištěnými prosociálními tendencemi a složkami empatie u obou zkoumaných podsouborů rozlišených dle škol zvlášť (podsoubor studentek třetích ročníků oboru Zdravotnický asistent Střední Zdravotnické školy v Ostravě a podsouboru studentek třetích ročníků Matičního Gymnázia v Ostravě a Gymnázia Hladnov v Ostravě). Získaná data byla zpracována pomocí metod statistické analýzy. Zjištěné poznatky jsou přehledně prezentovány a diskutovány.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with empathy and altruism of helping disciplines. It is divided into a theoretical part and an experimental part. The theoretical part in the first place deals with characteristic of the term of prosocial behavior, determinants of empathy, its ontogenetic developlment and the different conceptions of empathy, its categories and personality-psychological preconditions. Second chapter of the theoretical part is engaged in definition of the term of altruism, difference among the terms of helping, prosocial behavior and altruism. This chapter deals with definitions of helping, prosocial behavior and describes factors and the types of altruism. The third chapter covers with terms like helping disciplines and helping professions, engaged worker and not engaged worker. Then the risks to helping professions, burnout syndrom and syndrom of helping person are described. The last chapter of the theoretical part is aimed to definement of the term of volunteering, its terminology and its motives. Second part of my diploma thesis describes research with five aims. The first one was to find out the degree of prosocial tendencies and empathy of students who study the discipline of Medical Assistant and compare these results with the degree of students of two grammar schools. The second aim was to find out if these two groups differ in the frequency of their answers to the question if they have ever worked as volunteers. The third aim was to find out the degree of empathy and prosocial tendencies of the students who stated that they have worked as volunteers and compare these results with the degree of students who stated that they have never worked as volunteers. The fourth aim was to examine reciprocal relations between the aspects of empathy and the tendencies of prosocial behavior of both groups (divided according the answer to the question concerning volunteering) apart and both groups together. The last aim was to examine reciprocal relations between aspects of empathy and tendencies of prosocial behavior of both groups (divided according to type of school) apart and both groups together. Obtained datas were statistically processed. The research findings were summarised and discussed.
