Selected Aspects of Czech Economy during the Transformation Period

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá popisem a analýzou vybraných aspektů české ekonomiky v průběhu transformace. Úvodní kapitola se věnuje hlavním charakteristikám socialistických ekonomik a také analýze názorových přístupů, které průběh transformace více či méně ovlivnily. Druhá kapitola obsahuje hlavní makroekonomická data období transformace. Je rozdělena do tří podkapitol, což kopíruje fáze reálného vývoje transformované ekonomiky. Stěžejní částí třetí kapitoly je analýza faktorů, které přispěly k problémům české měnové politiky v polovině devadesátých let a způsobily následnou ekonomickou recesi. Čtvrtá část práce se zabývá transformací finančního sektoru, zejména pak transformací a privatizací bank a problematikou družstevních záložen a burzy cenných papírů. Obsahem poslední kapitoly je pak analýza restrukturalizace české ekonomiky a procesu privatizace, se zvláštní pozorností věnovanou metodě kupónové privatizace. Na konci práce je provedeno shrnutí a závěr.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with a description and an analysis of selected aspects of the Czech economy during the transformation period. It is initiated by the description of the main characteristics of socialistic economy and short depiction of possible methods of transformation that affected the whole process. The second chapter contains some key macroeconomic facts of the transformation period. It is divided into three subchapters following the different phases of the economic development. The main part of the third chapter is the analysis of the factors that contributed to the problems of Czech monetary politics in the mid-nineties and caused a subsequent economical recession. The fourth part of this thesis is focused on the transformation of the financial sector, mainly on banks and its privatization, credit unions and stock market. The final chapter deals with the issue of restructuring of the Czech economy and particularly with the privatization process. Special attention is given to the coupon privatization, as the specific method used. The final conclusion is made at the end of this thesis.
