Thematic Apperception Test and depressive in-patients

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce bylo zodpovědět otázku, zda – li se v příbězích evokovaných Tematicko-apercepčním testem nachází rozdíly mezi výzkumnou skupinou tvořenou 15 hospitalizovanými pacienty s depresí a kontrolní skupinou sestavenou dle pohlaví, věku a vzdělání výzkumné skupiny. Příběhy byly analyzovány dvěma skórovacími přístupy – afektivní škálou a interpersonální decentrací. Kvantitativní část byla doplněna kvalitativní obsahovou analýzou, která se snažila zachytit typické vzorce ve vyprávění pacientů s depresí. Bylo zjištěno několik statisticky významných rozdílů. Pacienti s depresí hodnotí své dominantní vztahy negativněji, než probandi z kontrolní skupiny. Také dosahují nižších průměrných úrovní interpersonální decentrace. Obsahová analýza odhalila několik typických vzorců objevujících se v příbězích pacientů s depresí. Výsledky výzkumu jsou diskutovány s dřívějšími poznatky. Výsledky diplomové práce mohou přispět k vysvětlení interpersonálních potíží pacientů s depresí, k porozumění jejich vztahům. Mohou být využity i v terapeutické práci s klienty nebo při diagnostice deprese. V závěru práce jsou představeny limity výzkumu a návrhy dalších studií na dané téma.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis was to answer the question if whether the stories evoked by Thematic Apperception Test are different between the research group consisting of 15 in-patients with depression and the control group formed by gender, age and education according to the research group. The stories had been analyzed by two scoring approaches – the interpersonal decentring and the affective scale. The quantitative part was supplemented with the qualitative content analysis, which had tried to capture the typical patterns in the narratives of patients with depression. The several statistically significant differences had been found. The depressed patients evaluate their dominant relationship more negatively than probands from the control group. They also get the lower average levels of the interpersonal decentring. The content analysis had revealed several typical patterns emerging in the stories of patients with depression. The results of the research are being discussed with the earlier findings.Perhaps the results of this thesis could help explain the interpersonal difficulties of the depressed patients and help understand their relationships. This could also be used in the therapeutic work with the clients or in the diagnostic process of depression. The conclusion presents the limitations of the study and the suggestions for further studies on the topic.
