The image of women in totalitarian systems of Central Europe in the Czech historical textbooks and its comparison with the textbooks of neighboring countries

Abstract:

Předkládaná práce řeší zastoupení problematiky žen, jejich místa a podoby všedního života v totalitních systémech 20. století v českých a vybraných zahraničních učebnicích dějepisu. Sleduje množství a kvalitu žákům předkládaných informací, využití různých didaktických prostředků a formu práce s nimi. Ke komparaci posloužily především učebnice sousedních států, a to jak těch, které byly součástí tzv. východního bloku a prošly obdobným vývojem v období komunismu jako naše země (Slovensko, Polsko, NDR, Maďarsko), tak dvou západních zemí, SRN a Rakouska. Obsahová analýza se soustředila na šest témat, na ženskou emancipaci, roli ženy ve společnosti, využití ženy v propagandě, na obraz ženy bojovnice, ženy oběti, včetně židovských žen, a na každodennost žen. Analýza se zaměřila jak na verbální text, tak text ikonický a funkčnost jejich nasazení. Komparace potvrdila předpoklad lepší didaktické propracovanosti německých a rakouských učebnic oproti českým textům. Z učebnic zemí východního bloku se vymykala maďarská gymnaziální učebnice dějepisu, minimalizující výkladový text ve prospěch didaktizovaných historických pramenů. České učebnice pracují s prameny vesměs jen v ilustrativní funkci, nevedou žáky k aktivnímu přístupu k učení ani při prezentaci mnou sledované tematiky. Jejich pozitivem je zařazení většího počtu konkrétních významných žen, byť často jen formou stručného odkazu na ně a vybídnutím ke zpracování referátu o nich. V německých, rakouských a maďarských učebnicích je ženská tematika představena výhradně na příkladech z domácí historie, zatímco v dalších analyzovaných učebnicích je patrná - byť nesystematická - snaha upozornit i na významné zahraniční ženské postavy.

Abstract:

Presented thesis deals with representaion of women's issue, their place and everyday life in totalitarian systems of 20th century at Czech and selected international textbooks of history. It monitors quantity and quality of information presented to students, using of different didactical means and the way of work with them. Especially, textbooks of neighbour states were used for comparison, it means those states which were a part of so called Eastern Bloc and have gone through similar development in the communist period as our country (Slovakia, Poland, East Germany, Hungary), but also textbooks of western countries, West Germany and Austria. Content of the analysis focused on six topics, women's emancipation, the role of woman in society, the use of woman in propaganda, the image of woman as a warrior, woman as a victim, including Jewish women, and the everyday life of women. Analysis is focused on verbal text the same as on iconic text and functionality of their deployment. The comparison confirmed better didactic processing of German and Austrian textbooks compared to Czech texts. Hungarian textbook of history deviated from another textbooks of Eastern Bloc, it minimized explanatory text in favor of didactized historical sources. Czech textbooks work with sources mostly in an illustrative function, they do not lead students to active approach of learning, not even by presentation of my subject of thesis. Their positive is including of more specific significant women, though often only in the form of a brief reference to them and call for a preparation of paper about them. In German, Austrian and Hungarian textbooks, there is women's issue presented only on examples from domestic history, while in the other analyzed textbooks, there is the effort - even non-systematic, to draw attention also to important foreign women.
