Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce zkoumá vztah studentů vybrané střední školy k mimoškolním aktivitám vzhledem k učení se anglického jazyka, jakých aktivit se tito studenti účastní a do jaké míry. Dále zkoumá pohled učitelů na zapojení jejich studentů do mimoškolních aktivit, zda pozorují vliv těchto aktivit na jazyku jejich studentů a jak. Tato práce je zpracována kombinací kvantitativní a kvalitativní metody výzkumu a používá dotazník a následné polostrukturované rozhovory jako nástroje ke sběru dat. Cílem tohoto výzkumu je nejen představit koncept mimoškolní (extramurální) angličtiny v České republice, ale především zjistit spojitost mezi mimoškolními aktivitami a jejich vlivem na proces učení se anglického jazyka. Cílem je dále zjistit, zda učitelé u jazyka svých studentů pozorují vlastnosti, které by mohly být spojeny s účastí v mimoškolních aktivitách a zda podporují své studenty v mimoškolních aktivitách.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis examines the relationship between students from a selected secondary school and extramural activities in connection to learning English, what activities these students participate in, and to what extent. Furthermore, it explores the teachers’ perspectives on their students’ involvement in extramural activities, whether they are aware of the impact of these activities on their English language skills, and how it is noticeable. This research was conducted via a combination of quantitative and qualitative research, employing a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews as tools for data collection. The aim of this research is not only to introduce the concept of extramural English in the Czech Republic but primarily to examine the correlation between extramural activities and their influence on the process of learning English language. Additionally, the aim is to determine whether the teachers are aware of any characteristics in their students’ language skills which could be associated with participation in extramural activities and whether they encourage students to engage in such activities.
