New Approach to Economic Development in Developing Countries: Integrating Sustainable Development and Inclusive Growth (case study: India, Shri Lanka, Indonesia)

Abstract:

This study examines the impact of sustainable development and inclusive growth on economic development in developing countries, focusing on India, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia. Employing a mixed-methods research design, the study integrates both quantitative and qualitative analyses to assess key economic indicators, including GDP growth, trade openness, and foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows. The study further evaluates the roles of population growth, healthcare expenditure, research and development (R&D) investment, and fossil CO₂ emissions in shaping economic outcomes. The findings reveal that sustainable development and inclusive growth exhibit diverse impacts across the selected countries. While India maintains robust economic growth, challenges such as low R&D expenditure and increasing CO₂ emissions persist. Sri Lanka demonstrates stable growth but faces constraints related to limited trade integration and low innovation investments. Indonesia experiences fluctuations in GDP and FDI, with high reliance on commodity exports and industrial activities contributing to CO₂ emissions. Regression analysis highlights mixed relationships between sustainable development indicators and economic performance, suggesting that structural reforms and policy alignment are necessary for maximizing economic gains. The study concludes that while sustainable development and inclusive growth are essential for long-term economic prosperity, their effectiveness depends on strategic policy implementation tailored to each country’s economic context.
