Katastr nemovitostí má svojí historii, má své zásady a v současné době představuje velmi obsáhlý soubor dat. Katastr nemovitostí je veřejným seznamem, který obsahuje soupis a popis nemovitých věcí, jejich geometrické a polohové určení a zápis věcných práv k nim.
