Experiences with Education from the Perspective of Adults with Visual Impairments

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá retrospektivním zhodnocením zkušeností se vzděláváním v rámci školského systému z pohledu dospělých osob se zrakovým postižením. Hlavním předmětem zájmu je kvalita podpůrných opatření a celková nabídka druhů a forem vzdělávání poskytovaná osobám se zrakovým postižením ve druhé polovině 20. století a na začátku 21. století. Teoretická část je tvořena třemi kapitolami. První kapitola definuje základní pojmy, jako zrak, zrakové postižení, osoba se zrakovým postižením a popisuje základní zrakové vady. Druhá kapitola se zabývá podmínkami, metodami, postupy a zásadami vzdělávání osob se zrakovým postižením. Třetí kapitola sleduje možnosti vzdělávání z hlediska forem a stupňů vzdělávání a z pohledu legislativy. Výzkumné šetření tvoří čtvrtou kapitolu této diplomové práce. Hlavním cílem výzkumného šetření je retrospektivně zhodnotit kvalitu školství z pohledu dospělých osob se zrakovým postižením, v různých stupních a proudech vzdělávacího systému. K naplnění hlavního výzkumného cíle bylo stanoveno šest dílčích cílů. Ty se zabývají specifiky výběru jednotlivých typů škol, informovaností pedagogických pracovníků, kvalitou poradenských služeb, možnostmi modifikace vzdělávacího procesu a technických prostředků, a sociální stránkou vzdělávání.

Abstract:

The topic of this thesis is retrospective evaluation of the experience with education in the school system as it is viewed by the adult with visual impairment. The main focus of the thesis lies with the quality of the support measures and the quantity of types and forms of education offered to the people with visual impairment provided in the span of the late 20th and early 21st century. the theoretical part is comprised of three chapters. The first chapter aims to define the terminology such as sight, visual impairment, and visually impaired person and to describe typical visual impairments. The second chapter deals with conditions, methods, procedures, and principles of educating visually impaired people. The third chapter evaluates the options in education regarding the forms and levels of education and regarding the law. The fourth chapter of this thesis is comprised of the research investigation. The aim of this survey is to evaluate the experience of visually impaired people with the quality of education at different levels and in different branches of the system of education. Six partial goals have been set to reach the main research goal. These goals deal with the specifics of the choice of a particular type of school, the level of knowledge of the pedagogic staff, the quality of advisory services, the options to modify the educational process and technical means, and the social aspect of education.
