Health of the Czech population based on the EHIS survey

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je zhodnocení zdravotního stavu populace České republiky v roce 2019 jednak z pohledu subjektivního hodnocení zdraví, tak i z hlediska přítomnosti chronických onemocnění a dlouhodobého omezení činností. V práci je zkoumán výskyt vybraných onemocnění (např. hypertenze, onemocnění krční a bederní páteře, artróza), dále jsou zkoumány návštěvy u praktického lékaře i u lékařů s jinou odborností. Práce je rovněž zaměřena na duševní zdraví a vybrané determinanty zdraví (např. konzumace slazených nápojů, užívání elektronických cigaret, doba sezení). Data jsou stratifikována podle pohlaví, věku, v některých případech rovněž z pohledu příjmu či obvyklého ekonomického postavení. Data jsou porovnána s předchozí vlnou šetření (tj. s rokem 2014). Hlavním zdrojem dat je Evropské výběrové šetření o zdraví (EHIS) z let 2014 a 2019. Práce podává možná vysvětlení získaných výsledků a dává je do souvislosti s doporučeními od Světové zdravotnické organizace (WHO) a dalších institucí. Mezi sledovanými roky došlo k nárůstu podílu respondentů hodnotících své zdraví jako „velmi dobré“ či „dobré“. Rovněž došlo k poklesu prevalence chronických onemocnění (z 61 % na 44 %). Tento trend však nebyl zjištěn u dlouhodobého omezení činností. U významného počtu determinantů zdraví došlo ke zhoršení výsledků (zejména nárůst obezity, pokles fyzické aktivity a konzumace ovoce a zeleniny). Nejčastěji trpí respondenti nedostatkem energie a pocity únavy, a to více ženy než muži. S růstem věku dochází k nárůstu podílu osob, které navštěvují praktického lékaře. Opačný trend je patrný u zubních lékařů či ortodontistů. Byla zjištěna závislost mezi otázkami z Minimálního evropského zdravotního modulu (MEHM) a návštěvami daných typů lékařů.

Abstract:

The aim of this Master‘s thesis is to evaluate the health state of the population of the Czech Republic in 2019, from the point of self-perceived health, chronic/long-term morbidity, and activity limitations. The thesis examines the occurrence of selected diseases (e.g. hypertension, diseases of the cervical and lumbar spine, and arthrosis) and also examines visits to general practitioners and other doctors. The thesis is also focused on mental health and selected health determinants (e.g. consumption of sugar-sweetened soft drinks, use of electronic cigarettes, time spent sitting on a typical day). The data are stratified by gender, age, and in some cases also by income or usual economic status. The data are also supplemented and compared with data from the previous wave of EHIS in 2014. The main source of data is the European Health Sample Survey (EHIS) from the years 2014 and 2019. The thesis provides possible explanations for the obtained results and relates them to recommendations from the WHO and other institutions. Between the selected years, there was an increase in the proportion of respondents evaluating their health as "very good" and „good“. There was also a decrease in the prevalence of chronic/long-term morbidity (from 61 % to 44 %). However, this trend was not found for activity limitations. A significant number of health determinants experienced worsening outcomes (increases in obesity, decreases in physical activity, and consumption of fruit and vegetables). Respondents most often suffer from a lack of energy and feelings of fatigue, more women than men. The proportion of people who visit a general practitioner increases with age. The opposite trend is visible among dentists and orthodontists. A dependence was found between Minimal European Health Modul (MEHM) and visits to given types of doctors.
