Who is the gallery educator?

Abstract:

The aim of diploma thesis examines the work position of the gallery educator in the current gallery operation. The theoretical part refers to selected historical events and figures (Alfred Lichtwar, Otakar Hostinský, Igor Zhoř) in the context of art theory, which influenced the development of gallery education in the form we know it today. Thesis also approaches the themes of cooperation, participation, and community in art of the second half of the 20th century and with a turn to the audience - visitors and viewers. The turn to the audience opens new ways to mediate art, among which is the creation of educational and lecture departments in galleries. At the end of the theoretical part, it studies the definition of gallery education through selected departments in galleries, with are named by different terms for audience development. It also refers to legislative grasp for the job position. In the practical part, through qualitative research, it formulates an answer to the question Who is the gallery pedagogue? directly in Czech and Slovak galleries. As part of the research, interviews were conducted with gallery teachers and curators. At the end of the practical part, it finds inspiration for mediating art in foreign institutions and evaluates the results of the research.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca skúma pracovnú pozíciu galerijného pedagóga v súčasnej galerijnej prevádzke. Teoretická časť sa zaoberá vybranými historickými udalosťami a osobnosťami (Alfred Lichtwar, Otakar Hostinský, Igor Zhoř) v kontexte teórie umenia, ktoré ovplyvnili rozvoj galerijnej pedagogiky do podoby, v akej ju dnes poznáme. Ďalej približuje témy spolupráce, participácie a komunity v umení od druhej polovice 20. storočia spolu s obratom k publiku – návštevníkom a divákom. Obrat k publiku otvára nové cesty k sprostred-kovaniu umenia, medzi ktorými je aj vznik edukačných a lektorských oddelení v galériách. V závere teoretickej časti nahliada na definíciu galerijných peda-gógov prostredníctvom jednotlivých oddelení v galériách, ktoré prácu s pub-likom pomenúvajú rôznymi pojmami a pre pracovnú pozíciu hľadá legislatívne uchopenie. V praktickej časti prostredníctvom kvalitatívneho výskumu hľadá odpoveď na otázku Kto ten galerijný pedagóg je? priamo v českých a slovenských galériách. V rámci výskumu boli realizované rozhovory s galerij-nými pedagogičkami a kurátormi. V závere praktickej časti nachádza inšpiráciu k sprostredkovaniu umenia v zahraničných inštitúciách a vyhodnocuje výsled-ky výskumu.
