Renaissance of gramophone record, its reasons and impact on the music industry and prediction of future sales

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá důvody aktuálního zvýšeného zájmu o gramofonovou desku. V teoretických částech je nastíněn vývoj záznamu zvuku a samotné desky od minulosti až po současnost, dále její role coby fyzického nosiče generujícího příjmy na hudebním trhu a význam těchto příjmů v kontextu celkových finančních zdrojů hudebního průmyslu. Hlavní část práce se věnuje teoriím spotřebních kultur a různým aspektům promítajícím se do spotřebních návyků hudebních konzumentů, které je vedou k rozhodování využívat a nakupovat analogové médium v prostředí plně rozvinutých digitálních technologií. Praktická část práce hodnotí informace získané dotazováním hudebních spotřebitelů a subjektů pohybujících se v rámci kultury kolem vinylů.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on the reasons of the current increased interest in vinyl records. The theoretical parts outline the development of sound recording and the vinyl itself from the past to present, as well as the role of vinyl as a physical medium that generates financial resources at the music market and the importance of this aspect in overall revenues of music industry. The main part of the thesis is devoted to theories of consumer cultures and various aspects that influence consumption patterns in the behavior of music consumers and that can lead to the decision to buy and use analog medium in the times of fully developed digital technology. The practical part is devoted to collecting data through questioning music consumers and persons involved in the vinyl culture.
