Political culture: a comparative study of two countries.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je dílčí synchronní komparativní studií České republiky a Velké Británie. Jejím cílem je nalézt rozdíl výše zmíněných zemí ve světle politické kultury. Na problematiku nahlíží z pohledu posledních dvou dekád, zohledňuje ovšem i historický vývoj států. První kapitola je zaměřena na teoretickou část politické kultury. Vychází z díla světově známých autorů G. Almonda a S. Verby. Současně však reflektuje některé další přístupy, které vznikly v průběhu posledních šedesáti let. Zabývá se proto i teorií občanské společnosti či sociálního kapitálu. Druhá kapitola společně se třetí jsou věnovány empirickému zkoumání politické kultury jednotlivých zemí. Vlastní výzkum je prováděn z pohledu politické dimenze, občanského étosu a vlastenectví. Současně zohledňuje pohled kulturní, behaviorální či strukturální dimenze. Po následné komparaci přichází na řadu závěr, který hodnotí původní hypotézy o diverzifikaci politických kultur České republiky a Velké Británie.

Abstract:

This thesis is a synchronic comparative analysis of the Czech Republic and Great Britain. Its main objective is to find differences between these two countries from the point of view of their political culture. The related issues are regarded with the retrospection of the last two decades taking into account the historical development of both countries. The first chapter focuses on the theoretical part of political culture. It is based on the work of the world known authors, G. Almond and S. Verba. At the same time, it also reflects some other approaches which have originated in the course of the last sixty years. For this reason, it deals with the theories of citizen society or social capital. The second and third chapters deal with the empirical research of political cultures of the individual countries. The research as such is carried out in the sense of political dimension, citizen ethos and patriotism. Cultural, behavioural and structural dimensions are taken into account too. After subsequent comparison there is the conclusion which evaluates the original theories of diversification of the political cultures in the Czech Republic and Great Britain.
