Attributive Constructions in Lithuanian and Czech

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce Atributivní konstrukce v litevštině a češtině zkoumá možnosti používání neshodných atributů vyjádřených genitivem substantiva a shodných atributů vyjádřených adjektivem (kdy toto adjektivum vzniklo přímým odvozením od zmíněného substantiva). Cílem této práce je zjistit, zda si tyto dva typy atributů mohou vzájemně odpovídat, tedy zda plní v konkrétních textech stejnou funkci. Teoretická část bakalářské práce nabízí stručný přehled dosavadní úrovně znalostí v oblasti přívlastků obecně se zvláštním zřetelem na systémy jejich klasifikace. Následuje praktická analýza atributivních konstrukcí získaných excerpcí z litevských textů. Příklady obou zkoumaných typů přívlastků jsou porovnávány pomocí metody diferenčního zkoumání, a to jak v litevském originále, tak v českém překladu. Na základě těchto srovnání stanovujeme, zda v daných konkrétních textech mohou oba typy atributů plnit tutéž funkci, nebo ne.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis Attributive Constructions in Lithuanian and Czech analyses the usage of non-agreeing attributes expressed by a genitive of a noun, and agreeing attributes expressed by an adjective (where this adjective was derived directly from the aforementioned noun).The aim of this study is to establish whether these two types of attributes are able to correspond, i. e. whether they are equivalent in function in particular texts. The theoretical part of the bachelor thesis presents a brief outline of the current level of knowledge on attributes in general, with particular focus on their classification systems. Subsequently follows a practical analysis of attributive constructions excerpted from Lithuanian texts. Examples of the two researched attribute types are compared using the differential description method, both in original Lithuanian, and in Czech translation. Based on these comparations, conclusions are made, as to whether the two attribute types can function equally in given particular texts, or not.
