The image of Wenceslas IV. in Czech scientific literature of the 20th century

Abstract:

Předložená bakalářská práce se zabývá postavou Václava IV. v české odborné literatuře minulého století. Práce zkoumá reflexi výše zmiňovaného panovníka v literatuře různých historických oborů. Z počátku je přiblíženo, jak byl Václav IV. vnímán ve staletích minulých a poté je věnován prostor literatuře minulého století, kde dochází ke komparaci jednotlivých děl i názorů autorů (historiků). Současně je reflexe Václava IV. porovnána s reflexí jeho děda - Jana Lucemburského. Za cíl si tato práce klade zhodnotit veškeré argumenty a postoje, jaké autoři postupně zaujímali nejen k Václavu IV., ale také na dobu jeho života a vlády. Zároveň práce zkoumá a hodnotí, jaké panovalo politicko-společenské klima v průběhu 20. století a jaký vliv měly tyto okolnosti na hodnocení osoby Václava IV.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the figure of Wenceslas IV. in Czech scientific literature of the last century. The work examines the reflection of the above-mentioned monarch in the literature of various historical disciplines. From the beginning it is approached how Wenceslas IV. was perceived in the centuries past and then the space is devoted to the literature of the last century, where there is a comparison of individual works and opinions of authors (historians). At the same time the reflection of Wenceslas IV. is compared with the reflection of his grandfather - John of Luxembourg. The aim of this work is to evaluate all the arguments and attitudes that the authors gradually took not only to Wenceslas IV., but also to his life and his reign. At the same time, the thesis examines and evaluates the political and social climate during the 20th century and what influence these circumstances had on the evaluation of the person of Wenceslas IV.
