Possible withdrawal of the Czech Republic from the European Union and its influence of international trade

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá případným odchodem České republiky z Evropské unie a jeho následným vlivem na mezinárodní obchod ČR. Teoretická část nejprve vysvětluje základní pojmy, teorie a směry související s mezinárodním obchodem. Poté vymezuje mezinárodní postavení České republiky v rámci komparativních výhod a míře otevřenosti. Klíčovým přínosem v praktické části je analýza exportu a importu České republiky. Na základě zjištěných hodnot je mezinárodní obchod ČR závislý na obchodování se členy EU. Po vstupu do EU 1. 5. 2004 má kladnou a stále rostoucí obchodní bilanci. Nejvýznamnějšími obchodními partnery ČR jsou zejména Německo, Slovensko a Polsko. Odchod z EU by tedy nepříznivě ovlivnil mezinárodní obchod ČR, protože by se dalo očekávat zavedení cel dle pravidel WTO. Druhým podstatným přínosem praktické části je komparace alternativních vztahů ČR po opuštění EU. Jako nejlepší scénář je vyhodnocen švýcarský model bilaterálních dohod. Česká republika by tedy nemusela dodržovat evropské regulace a mohla by si vyjednat přístup na evropský trh ve vybraných sektorech.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the possible exit of the Czech Republic from the European Union and the subsequent impact of international trade of the Czech Republic. The theoretical part at first explains the basic terms, theories and directions related to international trade Then it defines the international status of the Czech Republic within comparative advantages and the degree of openness. The key benefit in the practical part is the analysis of export and import of the Czech Republic. The international trade of the Czech Republic is dependent on trading with EU members. Based on the found values it has a positive and growing trade balance after joining the EU on May 1, 2004. The Czech Republic’s most trading partners are Germany, Slovakia, and Poland. Leaving the European Union would adversely affect international trade of the Czech Republic because it could be expected that tariffs would be introduced under the World Trade Organization (WTO) rules. The second significant contribution of the practical part is the comparison of alternative relations of the Czech Republic after leaving the EU. The best scenario is the Swiss model of bilateral agreements. Therefore, the Czech Republic would not have to comply with European regulations and it could negotiate access to the European market in selected sectors.
