Sources of support and barriers identified by graduates of social work during their transition into practice

Abstract:

Cílem práce je zjistit, jaké zdroje podpory a zdroje bariér identifikují absolventi bakalářského prezenčního studia vybrané katedry při svém přechodu do praxe v oblasti služeb sociální prevence. Prostředí praxe je v diplomové práci konceptualizováno prostřednictvím dynamického modelu Karen Healy a modelu sociálního fungování Harriet Bartlett. V magisterské diplomové práci využívám kvalitativní výzkum a metodu narativních opakovaných hloubkových rozhovorů, abych zjistila dostatečně podrobné informace o zkušenostech a pocitech absolventů. Záměrem práce je získat informace o tom, co vnímali absolventi během svého přechodu do prostředí praxe jako podpůrné mechanismy a co na ně naopak působilo jako překážka, kterou museli překonat. Na základě těchto zjištění je možné vytvořit doporučení pro to, aby byl přechod absolventů do práce co nejhladší. V první části práce předkládám definice všech prvků, které mohou dle dynamického modelu ovlivňovat utváření představy o účelu sociální práce. V metodické části popisuji postup provedení výzkumu, proces „vytváření“ dat a postup následné analýzy dat. Ve třetím oddílu práce se věnuji interpretaci dat, v níž předkládám svá zjištění a dokládám je citacemi respondentů. V závěru se prezentuji doporučení všem subjektům, které se nacházejí v prostředí praxe, jejichž cílem by mělo být zajištění klidnějšího přechodu do praxe v oboru.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is to find out which sources of support and sources of barriers are identified by graduates of bachelor full-time study of selected department during their transition to practice in social prevention services. The practice environment is conceptualized in the thesis by Karen Healy's Dynamic Model and Harriet Bartlett´s Model of social functioning. In my master's thesis, I use qualitative research and the method of narrative repeated in-depth interviews to find detailed information about the experience and feelings of the graduates. The aim of the thesis is to get information about what graduates perceived during their transition into the practice environment as supporting mechanisms and what, on the other hand, was the obstacle they had to overcome. Based on these findings, it is possible to establish recommendations to make the transition of graduates to work as smooth as possible. In the first part of my thesis I present the definitions of all elements that can influence the shaping of the idea about the purpose of social work per the dynamic model. In the methodical part I describe the process of research, the process of data “creation” and the process of subsequent data analysis. In the third part of my thesis I deal with the interpretation of the data, I present my findings and document them with quotes from the respondents. In conclusion, the recommendations are being presented to all those who are in the environment of practice. The aim of these recommendations should be to ensure a smoother transition of graduates to practice in their field.
