Natural hazards in the Ústí nad Labem region in the 2nd half of the 19th century

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na studium historických přírodních hazardů na Ústecku v druhé polovině 19. století. Teoretická část je věnována problematice historického přístupu ve studiu přírodních hazardů a definováním základních pojmů. Praktická část práce vychází z rešerše lokálního novinového titulu Aussiger Anzeiger, který vycházel v Ústí nad Labem od roku 1856 do roku 1902, na jejímž základě jsou jednotlivé hazardy analyzovány z hlediska jejich časoprostorové distribuce, vzájemných vazeb nebo společenských dopadů. Výsledky práce ukázaly, zda je použití lokálních periodik, jako jednoho z druhů dokumentárních dat, vhodné pro tvorbu časových řad, studium společenské percepce a zjištění příčin vzniku vybraných hazardů. Rovněž jsou představeny přednosti a limity vybraného zdroje.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the study of historical natural hazards in the Ústí nad Labem region in the second half of the 19th century. The theoretical part is devoted to the historical approach to the study of natural hazards and defining the basic terms. The practical part is based on research of the local newspaper Aussiger Anzeiger, which was published in Ústí nad Labem from 1856 to 1902. Based on the resulting database, different hazards are analyzed from the perspective of their spatiotemporal distribution, mutual relations or social impacts. The results of this study show whether use of a local newspaper as one of the types of documentary data is suitable for creating a time-series study of social perceptions and surveying the causes of the genesis of selected hazards. The thesis also presents the advantages and limits of the selected source.
