Public awareness on the issue of genetically modified organisms

Abstract:

Diplomová práce pojednává o geneticky modifikovaných organismech a informovanosti veřejnosti o této problematice. V teoretické části práce jsou nejprve zmapovány základní pojmy týkající se transgenních organismů, dále jsou zde objasněny informace týkající se transgenních rostlin, živočichů a mikroorganismů, jejich výhody a využití a možná rizika, včetně vlivu na zdraví člověka. Praktická část je realizována kvalitativní formou výzkumu prostřednictvím rozhovorů se dvěma výzkumnými skupinami, skupinou odborníků zabývající se genetikou na profesionální úrovni a skupinou ostatních respondentů z jiných oborů. Jsou zde zjišťovány informace a názory týkající se problematiky geneticky modifikovaných organismů u těchto dvou výzkumných skupin. Praktickou část doplňuje podrobný návrh výuky na téma geneticky modifikovaných organismů určený pro 2. stupeň základní školy.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with genetically modified organisms, and public awareness of this issue. In the theoretical part of the work, first I mapped the basic concepts related to transgenic organisms, information on transgenic plants, animals and micro-organisms is further clarified, their benefits, use and potential risks, including the impact on human health. The practical part is realized in the form of qualitative research through interviews with two research groups, a group of experts engaged in genetics at the professional level and a group of other respondents from other disciplines. Information and views on the issues of genetically modified organisms are collected from these two research groups. The practical part is extended by a detail proposal how to teach the issue of genetically modified organisms intended for 2nd level of primary schools.
