Death as a theme in schoolbook reading

Abstract:

Obsahem bakalářské práce, zabývající se Smrtí jako tématem ve školní čítankové četbě, je obsahová analýza čítanek pro 4. a 5. ročník základní školy se zaměřením na téma smrt. Práce je členěna do dvou částí, teoretické a empirické. V teoretické části je nejprve popsána literární výchova z pohledu kurikulárních dokumentů, dále pak charakterizován literárně výchovný proces a na závěr dětské čtenářství mladšího školního věku. Druhá kapitola teoretické části se zabývá fenoménem tabuizace smrti v moderní společnosti, stručně popisuje utváření dětského podvědomí o smrti a představuje výchovu k umírání. V empirické části je nejprve popsána metodologie výzkumu a zvolená obsahová analýza čítankových korpusů. Literární aktéry, kteří v čítankových textech umírají, dělím podle věku a následně podle povahy aktérství. V rámci analýzy a interpretace dat představuji, v jakém kontextu ve starých i nových čítankách umírají děti, jakou roli jejich postava plní v rámci příběhu a jaká je funkce ukázkou znázorněné smrti. Totéž popisuji u dospělých a u třetí kategorie věkově nezařaditelných anonymních „komparzistů“.

Abstract:

The aim of the present bachelor thesis, dealing with the Death as a theme in schoolbook reading, is a content analysis of reading schoolbooks designated for 4th and 5th grade of the elementary school with regard to the topic of death. The thesis consists of two parts: theoretical and empirical. In the first chapter of the theoretical part, the literary education is described from the point of view of curricular documents. Moreover, the process of literary educational itself and young school-age children’s reading are depicted. The second chapter deals with the taboo of death in the modern society, it introduces briefly the process of creation of the children’s subconscious of the death and it describes how education prepares children to deal with death. In the empirical part, the methodology of the research and the selected content analysis of reading schoolbooks are described. The literature heroes who die in schoolbooks are divided according to their age and then, according to the nature of their role. In the analysis and in the data interpretation, it is presented how children die in older and more recent reading schoolbooks, what their role in the story is and what the purpose of their death is. Moreover, a similar analysis has been completed with regard to the adult heroes and the non-classifiable anonym “supernumeraries”.
