Dataset creation and neural network model learning for myocardial infarction classification

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá možnostmi detekce infarktu myokardu (IM) v EKG pomocí neuronových sítí (NS). IM se projevuje sérií změn na křivkách EKG. Použity zde byly data-set z fakultní nemocnice Brno a jiný veřejně dostupný data-set. Oba data-sety obsahují 12svodová EKG v obrazové podobě. Data byla pro účely učení předzpracována a zbavena nežádoucích elementů. Data byla klasifikována do 2 tříd (IM, zdraví). Samotná klasifikace byla provedena konvoluční neuronovou sítí ResNet–50. Během učení byla užita metoda předčasného zastavení, výsledky pak byly ověřeny cross-validací. Součástí práce je také metodika tvorby data-setů a učení modelu NS. Výsledný model dosáhl hodnoty accuracy 84,38 %, sensitivity 93,75 % a specificity 75,00 %. Na závěr bylo provedeno srovnání s existujícími pracemi a učiněna doporučení pro další rozvoj řešení.

Abstract:

The thesis explores the possibilities of myocardial infarction (MI) detection in electrocardiograms (ECG) using neural networks (NN). MI manifests as a series of changes in ECG curves. Datasets from the Brno University Hospital and other publicly available datasets were utilized. Both datasets contain 12-lead ECGs in image format. The data underwent preprocessing to remove unwanted elements for learning purposes. The data was classified into 2 classes (MI, healthy). The classification itself was performed using the convolutional neural network ResNet–50. Early stopping method was employed during training, and the results were verified through cross-validation. The thesis also includes methodology for dataset creation and NN model training. The resulting model achieved an accuracy of 84.38%, sensitivity of 93.75%, and specificity of 75.00%. Finally, comparisons were made with existing studies, and recommendations for further research were provided.
